Canine Nutrition
With my background in human nutrition, I’m really passionate about diet and gut health in dogs too. There is a significant link relating both of these with behaviour, whether they have poor gut health, itchiness, ear issues, poor brain health or even just an aging brain. A tweak in diet or the addition of supplements can really help with improving the issue which can lead to an improvement in behaviour. Examples could be a senior dog with pain due to joints, a boisterous, over aroused dog that cannot settle or a dog with loose bowels etc. These are all ‘bucket fillers’ aka cortisol levels and can directly feed into behaviour struggles. You any want to consider how you worm, flea or tick treat too. There are some great supplements available that may help with all of these. The ones I use are A-OK9 and include plaque to help prevent issues with teeth, bug as I don’t use chemicals now and probiotics/rescue if any gut issues. The new one shroom, I am trialling to for my aging dog. Check them out here, along with lick mat, tick removers etc. I am a partner so will benefit from referral but I only affiliate if I believe in the products. You can add various herbs, seeds, kefir, spices etc directly too. Please message me for further guidance.
Tug-e-nuff have amazing toys, I liked them so much (and so do all the dogs I have recommended them too), that I am now a partner. My favourite are the chaser toys, (various options for these) as playing interactively with your dog is absolutely massive. It builds relationship, it meets the dog’s natural prey drive and actually can really prevent unwanted behaviours even developing. There are often good deals on the website too. Message me for any advice. The clam toys are great too.
I have researched and tried various different dog foods and have settled on the following. There is no correct ways for feeding your dog and it depends on the family and dog but there are definitely better choices than others but whatever you do adding some fresh fruit, veg, probiotics/prebiotics, meat or fish has shown to beneficial for health and longevity.
I use the highly rated different freshly made dog food. It arrives frozen and I mix it with Kibble (Eden) or thaw slightly and stuff in toppls, hooves, tracheas etc for more enrichment. My dog really enjoys it and really good nutritional profile. My referral code is below for varying introductory offers.
Enrichment/Long Lasting Chews
I would highly recommend JR pet products for ethically sourced high quality chews and treats. I am not affiliated with them but source all my chews, training treats etc from them.
